Koru games reflection

In the Koru Games the sport I competed in was…

Our team won no games but we did have 2 draws.

I found the experience to be fun because it was good to play a sport i love

In terms of working with Individuals and Groups; my solo level is relational because we were all good at skills but not so much at calling for the ball

For Teamwork; my solo level is multistructual because i tried to share the ball as much as i could so every one could have a good time

Individuals and groups
I need help to work in a group (with teachers or other students
I can work in a group with my friends.
I can work in a group with anyone in my  year level or team

I can respond positively to the needs of others
I can reflect on how well I work with the group and seek feedback on how I can improve
Teamwork

I need help to interact with others.

I need help to participate in a team.
I can interact with others one to one.

I can participate in a team.
I can interact with others in a small group.

I can participate and take responsibility in a team.

I can participate and take responsibility in a team and explain my choices in terms of team outcomes.
I can participate in creating healthy teams by taking responsibility and critical action.

Writing

In Writing we have been learning to: Write a formal letter.

We have followed the writing process and have planned and drafted a formal letter.

This shows the process that we have followed.

Here is the letter that I have written LINK

Here is my reflection on the letter writing that we have done.

One thing that I found challenging about writing formal letters was finding the right words to use.

My next step is: look for more opportunities to put my letter writing knowledge into practice in the future.

excellence 2017 home learning challenge 4

A few weeks ago I went to the Hillmorton High School opening night, I also had a private meeting with Riccarton High Schools principal and he showed me  around Riccarton High School.
I loved Going round Hillmorton High School Because we got to do activities  and get a taste of everything that we could do. I also liked Riccarton Because it was one on one with the principal. Over all my Favorite High School was Hillmorton because everyone there was so nice and there was lots of subjects that I liked.

I think the care value i showed was community for showing up to both of them.

I think the leadership trait i showed was Respect because i was polite and talked to people.

term 2 book review

The most interesting book I have read was super hero pets true tales of animal heroes because there are some amazing stories from a dog facing his own fears for his owner to a cat dialing 111. I would defiantly  recommend this book if you love animals and if you love exiting stories!

term 2 novel study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel silver stream

I found this novel not too good  because it was very boring and at the end it left you wondering what was gonna happen.

During the novel I had to complete a thinking map which shows that I can classify how the author has shown the theme of the book.
National Standard this covers

    • Year 9/10 Standard
      • I can locate, evaluate, analyse and summarise information and ideas within texts and across a range of texts.

Overall I would give this novel a rating of  4/10 and I would / would not recommend it to others to read because it was very boring in parts and i didn't like the book that much

today we had a shared lunch. the reason i was able to join was because, i did all the things i needed to do in my Cultural ambassador role. For the shared lunch i brought donuts and they went pretty quick.

i think the leadership trait i showed was goal focused because my goal was to do the stuff i'm meant to do so that i could get to go to the shared lunch.
I also think the care value i showed was community because i brought food to share.

leadership blog post 3 exelence

the other day I went to fidget spinner club to help the teachers I didn't have to do much to do so i sat on the stage to keep kids off of it.

i think the leadership trait i showed was active thinker because i thought of something to do.

current events term 2

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:
  • Year 7/8: I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

Describe Map One

Describe map Two

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

music term 2

For Music this term, three things I learnt were:
1. who is New Zealand artists
2. who is world artist
3. how to write a rap

Something I found challenging was making a rap because it was difficult keeping it with the flow.

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.

A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.

Here is a link to our online Modelling Book that shows the process we have followed.

Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:

  1. If you don't have correct punctuation they wont interview you

  1. They are not as easy as they look

  1. That they contact other people to know you better.

can do blog post excellence 2

At tech i have just recently joined foods it has been great because we get to do the dishes ( i love doing dishes.) And the other good side is the food. So far i have made Biscuits, banana loaf, pinwheel scones, and hot dog traps. To be honest my favorites where the hot dog traps.

I think the care value i showed was respect because i used the equipment with care and packed them up after.
I also think I showed the leadership value trust worthy because when the banana loaf was not cooked I was trusted to cook the tin, wash it and bring it back and i did so.

leadership blog post 2 excellence

the way i have shown leadership is by offering to help people and also holding the door for them to walk through. I have done this many times as i'm putting the flag away or grabbing it to put up all of the people who i do it to say thank you and look really happy.
i think the care value i showed was community because i am helping the community.
I also think the leadership trait i showed was active thinker because i wasnt just thinking of myself i was thinking of others.

Excellence 2 home learning challenge C8

Since Tuesday 30th May, I have been washing the dishes and keeping the kitchen bench tidy for my family. I have enjoyed doing the dishes. I think I will keep helping my family this way. It is nice to have dad come home happy because it is not messy and untidy every day.

Every week the seniors of Oaklands school go to technology at Lincoln primary. This week my group did foods and we made snag traps they where amazing and so easy to make. all it was, was buttered bread with a sausage, cheese, and sauce on the non buttered side then put all together buy using a tooth pic then put in the oven and then its done. this tasted so yummy!
i think the care value i showed was respect because once i had finished cooking i packed the equipment away. And a leadership trait i showed was goal focused because i listened to the teacher and got the work done

leadership blog post 1 excellence

A few weeks ago i went to visit the CCC and it was amazing. we got to walk around Christchurch and do some activity's with the people that work at the CCC. The first activity we did was go with one of the people into there office space and learn about their job i went with a guy who focuses on the waterways, i learnt that eels are fish. next we  organised an event  and we had a budget to spend on it. Another thing we did was go into the council chambers. And after all of that Mr Ladbrook took all of us out to lunch it was delicious.
i think i showed all of the care values because i used my manners and was polite to the people in the community.
I also showed the leadership trait trustworthy because i was trusted to be a good role moddel and i was.

home learning challenge 1 excellence

For this home learning challenge i am doing E9 and that is: research a person/event from New Zealands history and present your findings. i research sir Edmond Hillary and here is my findings.

Sir Edmund Hillary
20 July 1919 - 11 January 2008

This very brave man did some amazing things. With Tenzing Norgay he became the first ever person to climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world in 1953. He served in World War II and raised a lot of money to build schools and hospitals for the people of Nepal where Mount Everest is.

Lets go further back to when he was at school. He started off school at Tuakau Primary School then went to high school at Auckland Grammar School. It took him two hours to get to school each day on the train and after school another two hours to get home again. At Tuakau Primary School he finished two years early and then went to high school. He only got average marks.

A few years went by and he went and studied science and mathematics at Auckland University College. After that he went on to be a bee keeper. He only worked in the summer meaning he climbed mountains in the winter.

One thing your won't know about him is that his father fought in Gallipoli and as I mentioned before is that he fought in World War II as a navigator in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. He got badly burned in a boat accident.

He also reached both the South and North poles and was the first person to reach both poles and climb Mount Everest.

He was married twice and had three children. His first wife and one of his daughters died in a plane crash in 1975.

He was knighted in 1995 and his picture is on our $5 note.

He died of a heart attack.

Term 1 novel study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel Abandon Ship

I found this novel (interesting, ok etc)  because when ever I had to tidy away my stuff and I had been reading it always left me on a cliff hanger. It also had me deep into the book and it had me feeling like I was there. Now since I have read the book I know what my grandfather went through on the boat.

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference.

National Standard this covers
  • Year 7/8  Standard
    • using several pieces of information to make inferences
using their prior knowledge, along with information in the text, to interpret abstract ideas, complex plots, and sophisticated themes
    • I can use a range of strategies, such as inferring, to work out more complex words.

merit blog post 5 can do's 2017

At tech it was our first week at design. This week at design we played with a website called Tinkercad. Tinkercad is a website that you can make 3D things then connect it to a 3D printer and print out the things you made. This week we learnt how to make a key chain, mine was a baby blue heart with my name in a light salmon colour. I also went around and helped other people, I enjoyed doing this it was quite fun. I think the care value i showed was community because i helped other people with what they needed to do.

merit leadership blog post 5 2017

This week I have shown leadership by putting up the flag each day when its my turn, and taking it down each day when it is my turn. This week it rained A LOT and i still did my job when needed, I also reminded Hussain to do his bit but he refused and would not do it. That is how I showed leadership this week. i think i showed community for reminding Hussain about doing his job.

This week i showed leadership by wearing my hat. Through out the whole week i have warn my hat while being out side. I make sure to wear my hat after learning about melanoma and how if you get sunburn at a young age it can cause melanoma (skin cancer) and u can die. This week i even wore it under the shade umbrellas which i didn't need to but i did. I think it is very good to be sun safe and to ware your sun hat even if it is not sunny. I think the care value I showed was active thinking because I wore my hat all the time.

Home learning blogpost 3 2017

For this week's home learning challenge I have created a piece of art work for the classroom. Here is some pictures of me creating it and the final masterpiece.

can do's blog post 3 2017

For this week's Can Do's I'm going to write about Technology at Lincoln Primary School. This week at Tech we did robotics in Science. Milan and I had programmed our robot to do something, I have forgotten what we had programmed it to do though. After we had tried it out we came back and went to add more things but Milan and I had forgotten how to. We asked our science teacher to help us but he told us it was too complex and deleted our work, We weren't happy with that though because we were programming the robot to do things and he deleted our work. We dismantled the robot and packed it up as it was. Then we left and went back to school. I think i showed community by cleaning up after myself

merit leadership blog post 3 2017

As cultural ambassador you need to put out and bring in the New Zealand flag or other national flags as required, but you also need a timetable to say who puts it up or down each day. The timetable for Hussain and I is like, say I put it up on Monday morning he would bring it down on Monday afternoon, then he would put it up on Tuesday morning and I would bring it down on Tuesday after noon and so on and so on. So that is our timetable for putting the flag up and bringing it back down. I think the care value i showed was active thinking for thinking out this plan with Hussain.

Thank you for taking your time to read this.

my leadership writing

In writing I have been learning to:
  • use all basic punctuation independently
  • attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focusing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

The 6 leadership traits are Integrity, Active thinker, Goal focused, Trustworthy, Resilient and Motivational.
I think as Cultural Ambassador I need to show all of these leadership roles in my role. Cultural  Ambassador
is where Hussain and I put the flag up and down each day we also organised  Cultural week with Mrs Ward. We also read the phrase of the fortnight at every whole school assembly which is every 2nd week. I think the one of the leadership traits i use the most is Trustworthy because people trust me to put the flag up and down everyday.
